assessing Gardnerville NV
In 2014, Beneficial Designs contracted with the town of Gardnerville, Nevada to assess sidewalks for compliance with ADA standards. Gardnerville is the first jurisdiction where Beneficial Designs custom PROWAP software was used to check for compliance with PROWAG (Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines). In all, almost 20 miles of sidewalk and over 1,500 features, such as curb ramps, transition heights, and protruding objects, were evaluated for compliance.
The State of Nevada, Department of Transportation contracted with Beneficial Designs to complete a sidewalk assessment pilot project. The pilot included the creation of an assessment inventory for approximately 6 miles of sidewalk in the town of Gardnerville, as well as documentation of the collection procedures. In the process, over 600 features (e.g., curb ramps and transition heights) and over 4,000 data points (each representing a separate section of sidewalk) were evaluated.
